How should the elements of an international patent application be arranged?

The MPEP 1812 specifies the order in which the elements of an international patent application should be arranged:

  1. Request
  2. Description (excluding any sequence listing part)
  3. Claims
  4. Abstract
  5. Drawings
  6. Sequence listing part of the description (if applicable)

This order is mandated by the Administrative Instructions Section 207(a). The MPEP states: “The elements of the international application are to be arranged in the following order: the request, the description (other than any sequence listing part thereof), the claims, the abstract, the drawings, and the sequence listing part of the description (where applicable)“.
