What is the “Notice to File Corrected Application Papers”?

The “Notice to File Corrected Application Papers” is an official communication from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued when submitted patent drawings are not acceptable for publishing. According to MPEP 1302.05:

“If the drawings that are received are still not acceptable for publishing, the Office will mail a “Notice to File Corrected Application Papers,” giving the applicant a time period in which to file the corrected drawings.”

This notice serves several purposes:

  • It informs the applicant that the submitted drawings do not meet the USPTO’s publishing standards.
  • It provides a specific time frame for the applicant to submit corrected drawings.
  • It ensures that the final patent document will have high-quality, publishable drawings.

Applicants should respond promptly to this notice to avoid delays in the patent issuance process.
