Limited recognition for foreign patent agents is typically granted for a period of 5 years. According to the MPEP, Recognition of a foreign patent agent for the limited purpose of representing applicants before the USPTO in the presentation and prosecution of applications for patent is granted for a period of 5 years.
(MPEP 402.01) This means that foreign patent agents must renew their limited recognition status every 5 years to continue practicing before the USPTO.
