What happens if an amendment after final rejection is not entered?

If an amendment after final rejection is not entered, the examiner will notify the applicant. According to MPEP 714.12:

“If the amendment is not entered, the examiner will notify the applicant that the amendment has not been entered and provide the reasons for non-entry.”

The examiner will explain why the amendment was not entered, which could be due to reasons such as raising new issues that would require further consideration or search, or not placing the application in better form for appeal.
