What are common scenarios where citations may be too lengthy for the PTO-892 form?

The most common scenario where citations may be too lengthy for the PTO-892 form is with URLs (Uniform Resource Locators). As stated in MPEP 707.05(f): “This scenario occurs commonly with URLs.”

URLs can often be very long, especially for specific web pages or documents, making them difficult to fit within a single box on the PTO-892 form. In such cases, examiners need to follow the proper procedure for continuing the citation into the next box.
