This page is an FAQ based on guidance from the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure. It is provided as guidance, with links to the ground truth sources. This is information only: it is not legal advice.
Patentees can obtain a receipt for maintenance fee payments by request. As stated in MPEP 2575:
“Upon request, the Office will issue a receipt for payment of maintenance fees submitted by mail or facsimile after entry of the maintenance fee payment.”
These receipts are sent to the fee address (or the correspondence address if no fee address is provided) and allow patentees or fee submitters to verify that the Office has properly credited the payment.
