What is a statutory disclaimer?

A statutory disclaimer is a statement filed by a patent owner in which they relinquish legal rights to one or more complete claims of an issued patent. This is typically done if the patent owner believes certain claims are too broad or invalid.

As stated in the MPEP: A statutory disclaimer is a statement in which a patent owner relinquishes legal rights to one or more claims of a patent.
