The size limitations for ASCII plain text files submitted on electronic media are as follows:

  • For sequence listings: No size limit specified in MPEP 608.05.
  • For large tables: Limited to 300 printed pages or approximately 2MB of ASCII text.
  • For computer program listings: Limited to 300 printed pages or approximately 2MB of ASCII text.

MPEP 608.05 states: “A large table is defined as a table that is wider than 50 characters or longer than 50 rows. A computer program listing is defined as a printout that exceeds 300 lines of code. These files may each be submitted on a compact disc or DVD and referenced as described above.” The MPEP further clarifies that these limitations translate to approximately 2MB of ASCII text.
