The key requirements for an abstract in a PCT application are:
- It should be a summary of the disclosure as contained in the description, claims, and drawings.
- It should indicate the technical field of the invention.
- It should clearly state the technical problem and its solution through the invention.
- It should mention the principal use(s) of the invention.
- It should be concise, preferably 50-150 words in English.
- It should include reference signs for main technical features illustrated in drawings.
As stated in MPEP 1826: “The abstract shall be as concise as the disclosure permits (preferably 50 to 150 words if it is in English or when translated into English).“
