The Applicant Initiated Interview Request Form (PTOL-413A) is a tool used by patent applicants or their representatives to request an interview with a patent examiner. According to MPEP 713.01:
“The applicant must make the request for an interview prior to filing a response to the Office action. The request may be submitted with the Interview Request Form (PTOL-413A) or by an inquiry via the Office’s electronic filing system (EFS-Web).”
The purpose of this form is to:
- Formally request an interview with the examiner
- Provide a proposed date and time for the interview
- Identify the participants who will attend the interview
- Outline the issues or topics to be discussed during the interview
By using this form, applicants can efficiently communicate their desire for an interview and help examiners prepare for a productive discussion about the patent application.
