This page is an FAQ based on guidance from the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure. It is provided as guidance, with links to the ground truth sources. This is information only: it is not legal advice.

According to MPEP 1302.13, the primary examiner has a specific location for signing on the Issue Classification sheet:

“A primary examiner who prepares an application for issue signs the file wrapper only in the “Primary Examiner” box on the Issue Classification sheet.”

This designated box ensures clarity and consistency in the signing process, making it easy to identify the primary examiner’s approval of the application for issuance.
