The Director of the Office of Petitions has authority to decide various types of petitions. According to MPEP 1002.02(b), these include:
- Petitions to revive an abandoned national application
- Petitions for access to an assignment record
- Petitions relating to the filing date of a patent application
- Petitions to convert a nonprovisional application filed under 37 CFR 1.53(b) to a provisional application
