What is the WIPO Sequence tool and how does it help with Sequence Listing XML?
This page is an FAQ based on guidance from the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure. It is provided as guidance, with links to the ground truth sources. This is information only: it is not legal advice.
The WIPO Sequence tool is a software application designed to assist patent applicants in generating a compliant “Sequence Listing XML”. According to MPEP § 2413.01(b):
“Use of the WIPO Sequence tool will enable a user to generate a ‘Sequence Listing XML’ that conforms to the DTD in Annex II.”
This tool helps ensure that the sequence listing meets the requirements of the Document Type Definition (DTD) specified in WIPO Standard ST.26, Annex II. By using this tool, applicants can more easily comply with the technical requirements for submitting biological sequence information in patent applications, reducing the risk of rejections due to formatting issues.
