This page is an FAQ based on guidance from the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure. It is provided as guidance, with links to the ground truth sources. This is information only: it is not legal advice.

When submitting a maintenance fee payment, it is strongly recommended to include both a telephone number and a mailing address for the fee submitter. As stated in the MPEP, It is strongly recommended that a maintenance fee submission by mail or facsimile include both a telephone number and a mailing address for the fee submitter because, provided the fee is sufficient, the Office may attempt to contact the submitter by telephone and/or by mail to confirm the patent to which the fee is to be applied. This information helps the Office contact you if there are any issues or questions regarding your payment.
