What are the file name requirements for ASCII plain text sequence listings?

According to MPEP 2422.03(a), ASCII plain text sequence listings must adhere to specific file naming conventions:

  • The file name must not exceed 60 characters in length.
  • The file name should consist of the following elements in order: [name_of_applicant], SEQ.txt.
  • No spaces or other non-standard characters are allowed in the file name.

The MPEP states: “The recommended file name format is ########SEQ.txt. The ######### is an optional 9-digit application number (if known) or a 9-digit number uniquely identifying the sequence listing file.” It’s important to follow these guidelines to ensure proper processing of your sequence listing submission.
