We at BlueIron use all the tools and techniques in this book when we evaluate inventions and move them through the patent process.
We are investors. Our mindset is that the patent must have economic value to be worth the investment, and we cannot waste our time and money chasing vanity patents. We certainly cannot waste our time doing the job poorly, as that hurts us incredibly.
We do due diligence like our livelihood depends on it – because it does.
Logic tells us that some of the inventions we finance will not be as good as others, and statistics tell us that we need to beat the average. We believe that by using these metrics for screening inventions and these techniques for due diligence beforehand, we will have a much better chance at beating the average.
It is our hope that you can use the techniques in this book to better your investments. Hopefully, you can spot problem areas in a portfolio company and help guide a CEO to make better decisions, as well as spot possible investments where things are being done well and double down.
