What is the application size fee for U.S. national stage applications?

The application size fee is an additional fee charged for U.S. national stage applications that exceed a certain number of pages. According to MPEP 1893.01(c):

“The application size fee for a national stage application (37 CFR 1.492(j)) is based on the application size fee set forth in 37 CFR 1.16(s).”

The fee is calculated based on the total number of pages of the specification and drawings. As stated in 37 CFR 1.52(f):

“An application size fee is due if the specification and drawings exceed 100 sheets of paper, for each additional 50 sheets or fraction thereof.”

It’s important to note that this fee applies to the application as filed in the national stage, not as it was during the international phase. Applicants should be aware of this potential additional cost when preparing their national stage entry.
